9 in 10shoppers trust local sellers to fulfil orders and address inquiries, Shopee Malaysia, 2024

Shopee Malaysia's 2024 study "Sayangi Malaysia, Jom Rai Lokal" surveyed more than 2,000 shoppers. Nine in ten said they trust local sellers to fulfil orders and address inquiries effectively.

Trust in service was one reason among several. In the same study, 98 percent said shopping locally helps strengthen and uplift underserved communities, 85 percent said they are more likely to support local sellers, and 80 percent said they prefer made-in-Malaysia products. Shopee is a platform where local sellers sell, and the report we read gives no survey dates.

A separate 2024 Vodus survey of 19,697 Malaysians found that 73 percent are open to new brands in grocery shopping that offer better value. It is a different survey of a different group, and it covers groceries only.

As we read it, a customer who sees "local" expects the order and the questions to be handled. Helping local communities and buying made-in-Malaysia products are part of it too.

If your pitch says local, send the right order on time and answer every message quickly, before you talk about price.
